The Z List
The Z List - This Week's Biggest Losers 06/16/07

Angelina JolieWe were all witnesses this week to LeBron James learning some hard lessons at the hands of the future Mr. Eva Longoria. And King James' 0-4 flameout was echoed in the Zone by similarly cavalier behavior.

Angelina Jolie: She looked fantastic Thursday on "Larry King Live," but her mighty machinations the day before were just plain ugly. Hours before the New York premiere of her film "A Mighty Heart," Angelina unsuccessfully tried to have FOX News banned from the red carpet and get reporters who wanted to interview her to sign a consent form guaranteeing no personal questions, no future repurposing of the interview, and so on. This is a time-honored practice dating all the way back past "Eyes Wide Shut," but predictably, to do this for a film about journalistic heroism -- and one whose premiere benefited the non-profit advocacy group Reporters Without Borders -- sent media types over the edge. Angelina may be the top ranked actress on this week's Forbes Celebrity 100 (she's #14 on the list), but when she told Larry she has "great empathy" for journalists, she sounded about as phony as a three-dollar bill.

Kelly ClarksonKelly Clarkson: Short of finding out that Sanjaya was her opening act, Clarkson had about as bad a week as possible since being crowned "American Idol." Following reports that she was having a tug of war with recording industry legend Clive Davis over the contents of her upcoming new album "My December," Clarkson was forced to cancel a planned 40-city arena tour because of disappointing ticket sales. She also fired her manager, Jeff Kwatinetz. Clarkson tells Elle Magazine that she turned down an offer of $10 million from Davis to swap out five tracks on the upcoming album for songs he felt were more commercially viable. On the one hand, you have to admire her spunk; on the other, this is Clive Davis! If they decide not to release "My December," maybe she can go hard rock and wail about "My May and June."

Dan Rather Dan Rather: There's no doubt that Dan has a right to feel a little miffed (still) about how his final days at CBS were handled. But that's no reason to start calling out your successor, Katie Couric, on FOX News' "Your World" program. Dan now traffics in high definition feature pieces for Mark Cuban, but his thought process here was definitely more of the low-definition variety. Within a day or so of making his remarks, Rather was in the sights of not just CBS head honcho Les Moonves, but also every right-wing -- and left-wing -- blogger with laptop battery power. Rather is a man who loves homespun analogies, so here's one for him from TMZ: Your catcalls make about as much sense as trying to gussy up "Dallas" for the big screen. (Indeed, Larry Hagman claimed this week that the whole sorry 2008 endeavor has been scrapped.)

Michael Moore Michael Moore: This guy likes conspiracy theories, and it's hard not to think that someone who doesn't take too kindly to the Flint, Michigan rabble rouser's documentaries is behind this week's Internet leak of Moore's upcoming July 4 weekend shocker "Sicko." All of a sudden, the U.S. government's objections to Moore's trip to Cuba with 9/11 rescue workers to seek better health care treatment for the group's respiratory ailments, seem like the least of his problems. "Sicko" is all over the Internet, presenting the Weinstein Co. with much bigger problems than those faced by 20th Century Fox after a Memphis movie theater projectionist wrote on "Ain't It Cool News" about how bad he thought "The Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer" was.

David Chase David Chase: In a canned interview published Tuesday in the "New Jersey Star-Ledger," the creator of the best gangster drama this side of Martin Scorsese insisted he was not trying to mess with heads with the fade-to-black mystery ending of Sunday's final Episode 86. But a large part of the Tony Soprano nation is having none of it, even in light of increasing evidence that all the clues were there to suggest that T got popped. For many "Sopranos" fans, Sunday's permanent cliffhanger was about as much fun as being shot in the gut by Uncle Junior.

16. From 'rosie is hot' (as in Rosie O'Donnell ?!?)

"Anyone who can't see through her behavior is nuts. She is about as shallow as they come." = bash to her insides

"She is also leading the pack in anorexia." = bash to her outsides

"What a shameful example for young women." = bash to her actions

Who exactly are peoples' role models? Rosie O' Donnell? It would appear so! What public figures do you admire for their contributions to society? Paris Hilton?

17. shame on TMZ, the more you trash AJ, the more people love her work and her movie, an Oscar winner.

Note to Angelina:

Enough of the humanitarian work ~ the press needs some good ass shots; perhaps photos of you tanning; maybe you can go to the Hollywood hotspots a couple nights a week and come out in a drunken stupor; you must lunch at "The Ivy"; and last but not least, you made a big mistake by not celebrating your recent birthday at "Pure" in Las Vegas" and making a complete ass of yourself.

It doesn't matter that you've given tens of millions of dollars of your own money to humanitarian causes ~ you must get some of the aforementioned press to move off of the "Z List."

19.
A Mighty Heart, the story of Daniel Pearl...to quote an article, A Journalist On The Front Lines of History." The movie is based on the memoir written by his widow, Mariane Pearl.

For those that have been living under a rock, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed confessed to the murder of Daniel Pearl...according to the "9/11 Commission Report" KSM was the principal architect of the 9/11 attack.

At the premiere of a movie of this subject matter, is it the appropriate time to ask...Who made your dress? Are you going to adopt more kids? Does Brad change diapers???????

I think not and I totally agree with AJ on the "No Personal Questions."

As far as Fox News...they are only Bush's Bitch!!

20. I saw "The Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer" last night in an almost empty theatre. It is bad.

21. Let's be very honest and direct, the media and let's give a title to one in particular TMZ, has given the public an acute overdose of Paris Hilton, for some unknown reason they have the opinion she is the only one who is news worthy. Second, the news media over the last few years has hounded every move Brad and Angelina have made, they have so critical of both of them from being together to having a child, and adopting children. They photograph the children and publish the photos, which I believe is a criminal act. They chase their vehicle containing the children and put them in Jeopardy, hiding near nurseries to grab a photo of a tot, chasing them on foot through the streets of New York. When they actually do not have anything to report on either one of them, they make up stories and lie to the public. I found one article on another site, talking about Shiloh's first birthday, and the photo displayed was one of the family that someone had sneaked around and caught reading in the park, taken the first of the year. After all the Media has put them through and lied about them, Why would Angelina or Brad want to control the context of interviews, I guess TMZ and Fox News need to hire a Brain Surgeon to figure this one out. For the people here who have nothing nice to say about this couple and their children, Try walking in their shoes for 1 day. If you can stand the heat and the aggravation this couple puts up with, then you might have a right to be critical of them. Although, I don't think you could. Give this comment a thought. The Average Citizen has the right to privacy. These people don't, without them we wouldn't have such great entertainment. So, that means, they should not have rights of privacy, their children must be exploited by the Media, and people need to be critical over the fact the children are adopted. And the Media has the right to refer to a toodler as a Bastard. In my opinion, those of you who are so high an mighty, you might remember the news release, these two Famous People are going to quit Acting and Being in the Public eye, to regain their rights to privacy and give their children a chance to grow up in a normal family life. When they do, are you going to be critical of their decision? The world of entertainment is going to lose two very talented beautiful people. But, the family must always come first. Doesn't your family, children, grandchildren.
By the way if you want a cause to stand up for, why don't you read the article on MSN about the poor lady who was allowed to bleed to death in a County Hospital in California. That's a cause to go after.

22. Dan Rathers needs to keep his mouth shut. He may have been on the CBS news for
twenty plus years in the evening, but he needs to remember that his lack of being a good
investigative journalist in regard to the facts of President Bush's history with the National
Guard got him removed in the first place. Why would he make such a comment about
Catie Couric in the current CBS evening news slot?

23. I am sooo disgusted with the way whatever Angelina says or does gets twisted around for the benefits of "trash' joournalism". With ALL the good this woman does in this world you think you guys would give her a break. So needless to say, no I don't believe she was lying, I think her reps were the ones responsible for the verbiage of that contract but EVEN if she did what the F' is the big deal. Celebrity trash news isn't real journalism - U MORONS - I don't think freedom of the press to ask how she and brad and their kids are gonna spend their summer are necessary to uphold the pillars of the American freedom and wya of life. She is an INCREDIBLE woman and deserves accolades not jeers, by far she has done more self-less good to benefit others then any other celebrity I;ve seen. SO for yet again raking her over the coals foir no apparent reason, I hope only the worst imaginable karma for you you self-serving "so-called' journalists.

24. 23. nonnie ----

I have a daughter the same age, height and weight as Angelina.. My daughter's frame and weight are natural, she eats more than I do.. She doesn't watch her weight or work out, she's also had children.. If you do not know people who are naturally thin, and have problems gaining weight then you don't know what your talking about.. Also, POINT OUT TO THE PUBLIC HOW THIN SHE MIGHT BE IS NEGATIVE PRESS. Let's cover the other issue, " When I lost my Mother I was in my late 50's"
totally broke my heart, effected by daily life for well over a year. When I had to talk about my Mother Passing, I broke out in tears. I still found myself going to the phone to call her and it would hit me like a sharp knife, Mother was not with us any longer.

This child lost her mother less than 6 months ago, she is in her early 30's. Her Mother cannot share her happiness, the children growing up. I have no doubt the heart ache this child is going through, and how difficult it would be to talk about losing her Mother. WHERE IS YOUR HEART?

25. This is so amusing...Ms. Jolie explained the "press release " not once but twice..she was not only on Larry King but The Daily Show AND her lawyer came out and admitted he did it and that she did not approve of it. She stated clearly on the Daily Show that she thought it was too extreme and would not have approved it--her people did it to protect her from retarded questions..like the type paparazzi usually throw at these folks. As far as her being too skinny she has repeatedly said in interviews she is having trouble eating because of her grief over her mother as well as changing her diet after finishing breastfeeding Shiloh--if people are going to trash her, at least get your facts straight. It's like people are unhappy that she is not doing all of the ignorant and ugly things these idiots like Paris and Britney are doing so they trash her based on incorrect facts. How many of you Angelina bashers have given 1 million to Darfur or any of the other amazing things she has done for charity? And I do agree with the poster who lamented the over-coverage of Paris Hilton on TMZ--enough already--she is trash..we get it!

26. People, the woman is waking up every day next to Brad Pitt. I doubt she cares about dumbasses calling her names on a message board. I admire her because she has an I don't give a $hit attitude and she's not trying to please anyone. They have a beautiful family and she does a lot to bring attention to the poor and oppressed all around the world.

27. Jolie''s requesting a signed interview agreement before granting one is nothing new. Majority of seasoned actors and celebs do it to insure the topic stays upon the agreed upon topic instead of being wasted on worthless garbage like what's your take on the Paris Hilton Scandal, what type of paper do you wipe your butt with, etc etc etc etc.

Journalistic integrity has been compriimsed by the tabloid and paparrazi style of spin reporting. You'll find few worthy of a Pulitzer prize because they've stooped so low and wouldn't know a real story of human interest if it jumped up and bit them on the @ss.

Most are just spending their time in L.A. stalking and haunting celebs instead of risking their lives and reporting on stories of true world significance....genocide in Darfur, female infantcide in China, or the Aids crisis in Africa.

Not even a fan of Jolie. But, I say high fives for taking a stance and saying we'll discuss the movie only and you won't waste my time trying to get twisted tidbits for the tabloid spin.

28. GrandmaToo,
You're right. I've tried to gain weight and I was told by a dietitian, that my body is like a computer and it knows how many calories It needs. I'm 5 ft 4 and I weigh 110 pounds. I have two children and have worn the same size since high school. I have never been on a diet and I workout to keep toned. Just like it's not right to call someone fat it isn't right to call someone skinny.

29. Thank you Kara,

I spent my younger days the same way, always wore a size 8, when going through my divorce I dropped down to a size 6. Emotions have a great deal to do with your weight. Now, in my 60's, my body has changed and I am a size 14, doesn't matter what I eat or don't eat it remains the same so I have gone from thin to heavy.. Seen both realms of opinions on weight. People have a tendency to be critical of either one. If critical people only walked in others shoes, they might acquire an education in life.
