The Z List
The Z List - This Week's Biggest Losers 06/16/07

Angelina JolieWe were all witnesses this week to LeBron James learning some hard lessons at the hands of the future Mr. Eva Longoria. And King James' 0-4 flameout was echoed in the Zone by similarly cavalier behavior.

Angelina Jolie: She looked fantastic Thursday on "Larry King Live," but her mighty machinations the day before were just plain ugly. Hours before the New York premiere of her film "A Mighty Heart," Angelina unsuccessfully tried to have FOX News banned from the red carpet and get reporters who wanted to interview her to sign a consent form guaranteeing no personal questions, no future repurposing of the interview, and so on. This is a time-honored practice dating all the way back past "Eyes Wide Shut," but predictably, to do this for a film about journalistic heroism -- and one whose premiere benefited the non-profit advocacy group Reporters Without Borders -- sent media types over the edge. Angelina may be the top ranked actress on this week's Forbes Celebrity 100 (she's #14 on the list), but when she told Larry she has "great empathy" for journalists, she sounded about as phony as a three-dollar bill.

Kelly ClarksonKelly Clarkson: Short of finding out that Sanjaya was her opening act, Clarkson had about as bad a week as possible since being crowned "American Idol." Following reports that she was having a tug of war with recording industry legend Clive Davis over the contents of her upcoming new album "My December," Clarkson was forced to cancel a planned 40-city arena tour because of disappointing ticket sales. She also fired her manager, Jeff Kwatinetz. Clarkson tells Elle Magazine that she turned down an offer of $10 million from Davis to swap out five tracks on the upcoming album for songs he felt were more commercially viable. On the one hand, you have to admire her spunk; on the other, this is Clive Davis! If they decide not to release "My December," maybe she can go hard rock and wail about "My May and June."

Dan Rather Dan Rather: There's no doubt that Dan has a right to feel a little miffed (still) about how his final days at CBS were handled. But that's no reason to start calling out your successor, Katie Couric, on FOX News' "Your World" program. Dan now traffics in high definition feature pieces for Mark Cuban, but his thought process here was definitely more of the low-definition variety. Within a day or so of making his remarks, Rather was in the sights of not just CBS head honcho Les Moonves, but also every right-wing -- and left-wing -- blogger with laptop battery power. Rather is a man who loves homespun analogies, so here's one for him from TMZ: Your catcalls make about as much sense as trying to gussy up "Dallas" for the big screen. (Indeed, Larry Hagman claimed this week that the whole sorry 2008 endeavor has been scrapped.)

Michael Moore Michael Moore: This guy likes conspiracy theories, and it's hard not to think that someone who doesn't take too kindly to the Flint, Michigan rabble rouser's documentaries is behind this week's Internet leak of Moore's upcoming July 4 weekend shocker "Sicko." All of a sudden, the U.S. government's objections to Moore's trip to Cuba with 9/11 rescue workers to seek better health care treatment for the group's respiratory ailments, seem like the least of his problems. "Sicko" is all over the Internet, presenting the Weinstein Co. with much bigger problems than those faced by 20th Century Fox after a Memphis movie theater projectionist wrote on "Ain't It Cool News" about how bad he thought "The Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer" was.

David Chase David Chase: In a canned interview published Tuesday in the "New Jersey Star-Ledger," the creator of the best gangster drama this side of Martin Scorsese insisted he was not trying to mess with heads with the fade-to-black mystery ending of Sunday's final Episode 86. But a large part of the Tony Soprano nation is having none of it, even in light of increasing evidence that all the clues were there to suggest that T got popped. For many "Sopranos" fans, Sunday's permanent cliffhanger was about as much fun as being shot in the gut by Uncle Junior.

31. Grandma Too & Kara,

Count me in as well. Was 5'5" and 105 at age 25 - before children. Didn't diet but had a very active lifestyle. Tried to gain weight - even used weight gain powders - because I was told I was 'too skinny'. Finally gained weight during the first pregancy - was 114 at the end of the first trimester.

After 3 kids - at age 40 - was still a size 6. Now, at age 54 - post menopausal - I have also gone from thin to heavy - and am a size 14. I don't eat any more - or any differently - now than I did when I was thin.

My doctor does want me to lose some weight - and I am going to make that effort - but he is also not very worried about my current weight being a serious health risk. We both just think I'd feel better if I exercised more and lost some weight. No big deal.

My mother was naturally thin all her life - all 84 years of it. As was her mother and her mother. Some people just have that type of build and metabolism. I used to look like my mother's side of the family but as I age I look more like my father's side. Such is life.....

32. I was a called an "ass" last night for sticking up for her and Brad. I do not think she is shallow at all. I think that most people on here are extremely mean spirited. None of you including me know her personally.

A "journalist" and paparazzis are not one in the same. I don't think they can rightfully be compared. It was painful for her on Larry King live when he brought up the death of her Mother recently. It is more than likley a very painful subject to her and those are questons she doesn't want to answer. Reporters ask the dumbest questions as times.

Grandmatoo, I was a sticke all of my life. Could eat what I wanted whenver, after menopause boy did it change. I am now a size 14/16. No matter what I do or not do it is diffucult to loose weight. One piece of pie and I can gain 3 pounds. NO kidding!! Mother Nature was not kind to woman!!

33. Grandma Too, of course her mother couldn't share the joy of Shiloh, she was too sick to travel to Africa!. Her daughter was very thoughtful of her beloved mother's needs during this special time.

34. Lori, I know what your going through. It is frustrating to have to worry about the weight, and maintaining a healthy body. Many times while shopping I see such great clothing I would love to wear, those days have come and gone. The clothing that drives me crazy is the scretch. I hate tight clothing, always have even when I was small. Now, I have to buy an x in stretch to feel comfortable and not hug so tight. Your right about the reporters, I guess they must be paid by the word, and their boss's really don't care if the story line is true or not, or if its harmful to people. I'm still furious about the way the children are reported in the media. That is just heartless, and no one in the Judicial World will stop it.

35. This has to be the fakest person on the planet. She has tried to suddenly become this caring person when we all know she's still the old skank she always was. As for the document, if it weren't for the media we'd have no idea who she is or that she'd slept with married men and women. She needs to count her blessings that anyone even cares if she's alive and then realize her attention is only generated because of her sluty actions, not because of anything good she's done since she's lie about all her donations.

36. Gramdmatoo,

I know about the clothes thing it is hardly fun to shop for clothes anymore. It is no matter a question of what I like it is what will WORK or look semi-good. It is called "age-appropriate" dressing I guess. Have you tried on bathing suits?? That is "fun" not to be missed haha. I have literally spent hours trying on suits. I have to say nothing looks great when you are over weight. Well "exceptance" is when you open up a Lane Bryant charge card. I just did, although the tops are o.k. in the smallest size the pants are to large. It is best not to have to go to to pluz sizes as the cost increasted dramatically!!!

Look how awful and how Princess Dianas sons are trying to stop them from printing pictures of there dead Mother. There is journalism and then there is just poor taste. I don't think the 2 can be compared totally.

37. Lori, Lord yes the bathing suit nightmare. I finally found a two piece that really works..
Have you ever ended up with one that had a skirt, that floated ontop of the water, and the top that never holds anything in. I guess that would be the only time, I would wish to be young again, but I surely wouldn't want to have to live those years over again. Once was enough.

38. I don't see any hypocrisy in what she did at all. There's a difference between journalists and entertainment writers. Who in their right mind would want to subject themselves to the predictably negative publicity machine of Hollywood reporting? So TMZ writers stop with the crocodile tears already! If you want to be journalists get educated on journalistic standards and start looking for a new job. Your red carpet whining insults our intelligence and comes off as self serving and shallow.

39. GrandmaToo...
I also have a saying... Dont bite the hand that feeds you.

40. I thought the ending of The Soprano's was perfect! For those of us who didn't want Tony to die, he didn't. For those who thought he (and maybe his whole nuclear) family should get wiped out, they did. I love you David Chase!

41. JOLIE (she's no angel) will be remembered as a 'home breaker," if she is remembered at all. Money might buy her kids, but it takes a good nanny to care for them while she is running around the country trying to get her name in the papers. She will never be a "Diana."

42. The most important distinction is that Jolie uses the media for self promotion. Yet, tries to put in a legal document that she can not be shown in a way that is demeaning ect.

This is what needs the focus. Angie is trying to control her "image".

Not all of us feel comfortable with all the "worship" pieces she puts out there. She is treading in dangerous water & I think her control issues are bringing out very dictatorship qualities. Does she want us to bow to her? Is she trying to force the image of mother & humanitarian on us? & what is she trying to prove & why? What kind of power is she seeking?

This women is a Narcissist with a deep need of attention, power, and control. Those children are her human shields. She uses them as a form of self-protection. This women scares me with how far she will go to manipulate & control "media" & public perception.

Don't worship her & support her. If she wants to help the world, she can do it the old fashioned way & that is with hard work & dedication. She does not need recognition & admiration.

43. Max, I agree with you.. I loved the ending. Like everyone else, I saw hit men all around them. But, it does allow us to invision what might have happened. It was great.

44. Jolie is acts like an ingrate and a hypocrite and then when people call her on it, she shoves the blame on her lawyer - which makes her a coward, too.
Dan Rather - Is tarting up the news really worse than forging it?
Michael Moore - He is so five years ago.
David Chase - Guess I'll never find out if Paulie Walnuts was inspired by Paulie "The Walnut" who pops up in a couple of my fave Jersey mystery books - but IMHO if I'm supposed to supply the ending, how 'bout I get a cut of what you got for writing that finale?

45. What I'd like to know is how this "actress" became a representative for the United Nations? I'm appalled that this is what is representing us - the United States of America - in the world.
Is she what I want my daugters or granddaughters to emulate? I don't think so!
