The Z List
The Z List - This Week's Biggest Losers 06/16/07

Angelina JolieWe were all witnesses this week to LeBron James learning some hard lessons at the hands of the future Mr. Eva Longoria. And King James' 0-4 flameout was echoed in the Zone by similarly cavalier behavior.

Angelina Jolie: She looked fantastic Thursday on "Larry King Live," but her mighty machinations the day before were just plain ugly. Hours before the New York premiere of her film "A Mighty Heart," Angelina unsuccessfully tried to have FOX News banned from the red carpet and get reporters who wanted to interview her to sign a consent form guaranteeing no personal questions, no future repurposing of the interview, and so on. This is a time-honored practice dating all the way back past "Eyes Wide Shut," but predictably, to do this for a film about journalistic heroism -- and one whose premiere benefited the non-profit advocacy group Reporters Without Borders -- sent media types over the edge. Angelina may be the top ranked actress on this week's Forbes Celebrity 100 (she's #14 on the list), but when she told Larry she has "great empathy" for journalists, she sounded about as phony as a three-dollar bill.

Kelly ClarksonKelly Clarkson: Short of finding out that Sanjaya was her opening act, Clarkson had about as bad a week as possible since being crowned "American Idol." Following reports that she was having a tug of war with recording industry legend Clive Davis over the contents of her upcoming new album "My December," Clarkson was forced to cancel a planned 40-city arena tour because of disappointing ticket sales. She also fired her manager, Jeff Kwatinetz. Clarkson tells Elle Magazine that she turned down an offer of $10 million from Davis to swap out five tracks on the upcoming album for songs he felt were more commercially viable. On the one hand, you have to admire her spunk; on the other, this is Clive Davis! If they decide not to release "My December," maybe she can go hard rock and wail about "My May and June."

Dan Rather Dan Rather: There's no doubt that Dan has a right to feel a little miffed (still) about how his final days at CBS were handled. But that's no reason to start calling out your successor, Katie Couric, on FOX News' "Your World" program. Dan now traffics in high definition feature pieces for Mark Cuban, but his thought process here was definitely more of the low-definition variety. Within a day or so of making his remarks, Rather was in the sights of not just CBS head honcho Les Moonves, but also every right-wing -- and left-wing -- blogger with laptop battery power. Rather is a man who loves homespun analogies, so here's one for him from TMZ: Your catcalls make about as much sense as trying to gussy up "Dallas" for the big screen. (Indeed, Larry Hagman claimed this week that the whole sorry 2008 endeavor has been scrapped.)

Michael Moore Michael Moore: This guy likes conspiracy theories, and it's hard not to think that someone who doesn't take too kindly to the Flint, Michigan rabble rouser's documentaries is behind this week's Internet leak of Moore's upcoming July 4 weekend shocker "Sicko." All of a sudden, the U.S. government's objections to Moore's trip to Cuba with 9/11 rescue workers to seek better health care treatment for the group's respiratory ailments, seem like the least of his problems. "Sicko" is all over the Internet, presenting the Weinstein Co. with much bigger problems than those faced by 20th Century Fox after a Memphis movie theater projectionist wrote on "Ain't It Cool News" about how bad he thought "The Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer" was.

David Chase David Chase: In a canned interview published Tuesday in the "New Jersey Star-Ledger," the creator of the best gangster drama this side of Martin Scorsese insisted he was not trying to mess with heads with the fade-to-black mystery ending of Sunday's final Episode 86. But a large part of the Tony Soprano nation is having none of it, even in light of increasing evidence that all the clues were there to suggest that T got popped. For many "Sopranos" fans, Sunday's permanent cliffhanger was about as much fun as being shot in the gut by Uncle Junior.

46. Michael Moore, and Angelina are Americans first and entertainers
second . They have a right to state their opinions. The same freedom of speech that you guys obviously have a problem with, is the "freedom" you claim our troops are fighting for in Iraq. You don't have to be a political expert to know that this administration is one
of the most corrupt, and incompetent that we've had in a long time.

47. Well, when Michael Moore starts throwing pity-parties & drags others "adopted orphans", "people living in exile", and her "mothers death" as ways to garner sympathy for "wrecking homes & heroin usage" we can talk. Until then, I recommend stop grabbing at straws.

Angelina Jolie is trying to "control the media for self promotion". That is a dictator & has nothing to do with freedom of speech. She is trying to take away that freedom & only give it to reporters willing to lick her arse.

49. I just don't get how Angelina could believe that people will see as a vampire one minute then a Humanitarian the next? She's phoney and she needs to lie better. Did you see her on Larry King? Anyone think this is politician material?

51. oh no. oh no you did not. Don't go there.

Don't turn on Angelina or we will turn on you in droves!!

You can attack the self-absorbed ninny's out there but Angelina does too much and gives too much back for some fool at TMZ to take pot-shots.

52. It’s obvious Angelina Jolie is very passionate about this movie and wanted to keep people focused on it, but she went about it in the wrong way. The very thing she wanted was the opposite of what happened. Instead of talking about the movie, we are now all talking about how she tried to control the press. The reason why people keep talking about it is because she hasn’t come 100% clean about the extent of her involvement. People can smell a lie!

53. What an ignorant fool.

To have "empathy" means to "have understanding so intimate that feelings, thoughts and motives of one are readily comprehended by another" (The American Heritage Dictionary).

How on earth could this woman have "great empathy" regarding being a reporter or journalist?

On the other hand, she probably can empathize with actors, those who adopt lots of children, and women who go after men who are in relationships or marriages.

54. Angelina-Jolie,, and Brad Pitt ,,SUCK...

Those two think they are god's gift to the world... WHT A JOKE.. Everyone has not
forgotten,,that both Angelina and Brad where born into thecelebrity/famousfamilies... They both were brought up spoiled and into fortune... And it shows... Angelina is a FREAK,, she has broken up more marrieges/relationships in Hollywood,,and made out with her own brother,,Hey Jolie nothing like keeping it in the
family...lol..

Then she does a movie with Brad,,and sets her clause into makeing him daddy to her adopted kids,,,, along as makeing sure she has him ,,she gets PREGANT while he is STILL MARRIED TO JENNIFER...Then bad enough,, SHE FLAUNTS IT,, IN THE PUBLIC/MEDIA..She is a bitch,, and now she teaches Brad how to use the media outlet to their benefit,,, he jumps on the MISLEAD WAGON..

Now those two act like their god's gift to the WORLD.... lol,, I THINK NOT...LMAO...They
minuplate the media all the time ,,to benefit them.... THE LOVING
FAMILY,,LOVING MOMMY AND DADDY,,, BS...LOL.. IF THEY WHERE SO
GREAT,,, AND TRUSTED EACHOTHER,,,AND WAS SUCH THE LOVING FAMILY THEY
PLAY TO BE,,,WHY NOT GETMARRIED????? But Brad cant trust her,,, so
their is no marriege indiscussion.. And he is only adopting Angelina
foster kids,,so he getsin the public lime light,,, of what a
wonderful guy,,wonderful fatherhe is.... BS..lol...

Angelina is a CRUED BITCH,,and she shows it whenshe wants to be the one pulling the
strings with the media... The public should down - grade/ratings the movie,,so they take a loss,,at the theatre's... Oh ya,, didnt her role on this film,,, be paidwith dear Brad/father to her kids,,,produce/ money this movie,,or was it from his production
company,,,,,that fronted the money on this film??? oh and by the way,,
when brad was married to jennifer ,,he promised her the role,,, when
he hooked up with angelina,,, jennifer was out the door cold,,,,

I have no attentions on seeing this movie,,if she is going to play
games like that.... with the media.... Her life is a FAKE,,,,,,and
she wants to be protrayed in the media,,thats
she wonderful,,women....and that her family and her life with Brad
is so great,,, which is far from the truth... The media,, is for FREEDOM
OFSPEECH ,, and if she wants to control that,,, she needs to move
to another country,,,and raise her loving family...and take her
sidekick with her,,BRAD..

56. I'm with you Sandra, All Americans need heath care. The State of Pennsylvania has free or low cost healthcare for all children, thats a good start. Our children are our future. I hope the other 49 states follow suit, if you don't want to keep adults healthy, then help our children. Micheal Moore used the throw the rock at your windshield to get your attention.

57. Angelina was on "The Daily Show" with John Stewart the night after her interview with Larry King(who by the way--- kept mispronouncing her costars name in "A Might Heart"--Dan Futterman-- as Dan Putterman!)and Stewart asked her about the ban on the press asking her any personal questions---- and she said her handlers--publicists, representatives, etc--put that out there--she said she had nothing to do with it--and she apologized.

59. tabloid journalism is to 'free press' what the tobacco industry is to farming, what fast food is to nutrition - it's immediate gratification that's ultimately not good for us. And whenever their industry of vices is threatened, every one of them attacks.

If it's out there, we'll eat it up and that's our choice - but for tabloid journalism to be claiming there's hypocrisy for Angelina to place time place and manner restrictions on her personal life in promoting A Mighty Heart is even more of an insult to free press tabloid journalism tries to make it sound like they're on the same level of a Wall Street Journal bureau chief reporting on terrorism in the Middle East . . . it's trying to gain legitimacy off the back of a beheaded journalist who isn't around to defend himself.

Look Angelina isn't Mother Theresa any more than Fox Gossip, TMZ, and Showbuzz, etc are free press worthy 'journalists' . . . which is why this is more about the survival of the tabloid industry versus the privacy rights of stars (who are still people) and NOT first amendment.

60. Hey gals ( Angelina bashers) post your pictures and lets see how you stack up to Angelina. I doubt your boyfriends are half as hot as Brad. Instead of sitting on your fatasses bashing her why don't you go out and do some good. Some women are so insecure they can't say anything nice about a beautiful woman. I'm totally confident in my looks I workout and keep myself in shape and I'm not jealous of Angelina or anyone else. As far as Brad and Jen Brad took vows with Jen Angelina didn't, you can't lose what you never had.
