Tejano Star Emilio Navaira Critical After Crash

Grammy-winning Tejano singer Emilio Navaira was critically injured after his band's bus crashed in Houston.

Navaira and his band Rio had performed at a Houston nightclub on Saturday night. Cops say around 5:00 AM Sunday the band's bus slammed into traffic barrels on Interstate 610 northbound in Bellaire, a posh area west of downtown Houston.

Navaira is currently in critical condition at Memorial Hermann Hospital. His brother Raul was also injured in the wreck, along with several other members of the band.

The 45-year-old Navaira and Rio have released more than a dozen albums. "Acuerdate" won the 2003 Grammy for best Tejano album.

198. He was a big crossover country music star (English) in the mid 1990's. Thta's how I came to be a fan. His song "I's not the end of the world, but it's a damn good start" is a classic.

Emilio, you and your family remain in our prayers. You will get well and sing again. Hang in there hun.

200. Emilio, God is strong and YOu are strong. And i pray for you, your family, and all of us, YOUR FANS. May you pull thru this awful nightmare at this time. And may you also return as strong, if not stronger than before. I am originally from Lubbock, Tx, now in the Dallas area, but you are great everywhere you are and go. And your band Rio. I am 53 years old, hispanic woman that survived a heart attack, and a stroke in 2007 within 5 months. I am here, doctors do miracles. But GOD above is looking down on us. And he will help you in this be the mighty Emilio again. Hold on, and we are all behind you all in a single file today, tomorrow, and always. To your family god give you all strength and to your children: you dad will be home soon and get better everyday. My prayers are with you all! God bless, Minerba

202. 9 years ago I had an aneurysm and then during surgery a stroke. I was in a coma for 3 weeks; the stroke caused blindness and paralysis on my left side. Today I am fully recovered because God allowed me to fully participate in my rehabilitation. In the hospital they said 1. I would not survive. 2. turn off life support 3. if I survived I would not be able to walk or talk.

Here I am kicking butt. I dance salsa and I returned to my job as a financial executive. There is hope for Emilio as long as he has the will to work on his recuperation and the faith in God to sustain him. I wish him well.

205. Emilio appeared in Califas at the Orange County fair Costa Mesa a few times. Very entertaining. Texmex sound to me as a Chicano is more appealing than Norteno. Ive never heard little joe or emilio sing about drug deals . Emilio will live again to speak about his experience and lessons learned.

206. I would like to extend my Well wishes and prayers to the Navaira Family.
It does not matter if he is popular or not, hispanic or not, rich or poor, grammy winner or not,
It matters that he is a human being who has family especially children and for everyone close to him, I wish him well and to the family I say Hold On to the great memories. He will be fine and With Faith and Love, God does bring miracles to our lives.
If we ignore the haters and ignorants, they will eventually stay out of here.
Today it's Emilio's family but tomorrow it could be your family.
Good luck Emilio.
