It was bound to get downright inappropriate during the roast of Joan Rivers -- but was anybody really expecting not one, but two cracks at the late David Carradine's expense? Warning: Language NSFW.

Both Greg Giraldo and Joan herself made the jokes -- but they leave us with just one question ...

A private autopsy performed on David Carradine's body suggests the actor's death was accidental.
Forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden said the cause of death was from asphyxiation -- and that binding on his body helped rule out suicide. Baden said Carradine's hands were tied above his head, not behind his back -- but he still needed more information from Thai police to completely rule out the possibility he was killed by someone else.
Carradine was found hanging naked in the closet of his Bangkok hotel room on June 4.

An independent autopsy requested by David Carradine's family revealed he did not commit suicide.
No real surprise there. The forensics expert who examined his body, Dr. Michael Baden, said he'll need further information from Thailand to make a final determination about the cause of death.

David Carradine went to a Los Angeles sex shop he frequented just three weeks before he died and placed a large order for clothing, toys and videos.

According to the owner of Susie's Delights in Tarzana, CA, Carradine was a regular in the store -- shopping there a few times a month for years. The owner tells us Carradine owned almost every piece of bondage equipment in the store.
The order Carradine placed three weeks ago included women's lingerie, stockings, a few pieces of bondage equipment and three bondage DVDs. Some of the items were on back order and Carradine was supposed to come back and pick them up a few weeks later. He never did.
The owner told us when Carradine placed the order he talked to her for almost an hour, saying he was upset because he felt his wife was unhappy with him.
The photo gallery (above) includes various items the owner says Carradine purchased in the store.

The episode of "Mental" David Carradine filmed before his death aired last night on FOX.

Carradine played a famous author who goes catatonic after getting struck by lightning -- and spends most of the episode confined to a bed, sitting in a wheelchair or floating lifeless in a pool.
His character does eventually wake up. But ...was it cool to run the show so soon?

We've now seen a clear, uncensored version of the photo of David Carradine's body, and it reveals a powerful clue reinforcing the theory his death was an accident.
The rope around his neck is knotted in front -- common in the bondage community. We checked around with experts, who say a knot in the front is a telltale sign someone is not doing themself in. The frontal knot makes it fairly easy to quickly escape if they start losing consciousness.

One of David Carradine's ex-wives tells us David's obsession with auto-erotica went so far, it involved Jesus.
Gail Jensen -- Carradine's third wife -- says she came home one day and -- starting at the door -- there were post-it notes with arrows leading into the basement.
Jensen says she followed the notes and found Carradine hanging from a rope, emulating Jesus Christ in body position. Jensen asked him what he was doing. David's response: "I really would like a sandwich."
Jensen says they were having people over, but David stayed in the basement while the guests ate upstairs. Gail says she went down to the basement several times to give him food and wine. Several hours later, he untied himself and joined the party.

David Carradine's family reached out to the FBI to assist police in Thailand with his death investigation -- but it doesn't look like the agency is gonna be able to make much of an impact.
Thai police Maj. Gen. Amnuay Nimmano told reporters, "If the FBI wants to get involved, we will do our best to cooperate..." and added it would have to be in an observer role as mandated by Thai law, the Huffington Post is reporting.
As of right now most of the evidence points to David's death as an a result of accidental asphyxiation -- especially since there's no evidence someone else was in the room at the time -- but the family isn't buying it.
A second autopsy is set to be performed in a few days.

Another woman from David Carradine's past is talking about the actor's penchant for auto-erotica -- claiming he would spend days planning to construct elaborate sexual devices.
Carradine's third ex-wife, Gail Jensen, dropped more personal bombshells in an interview with Patricia Towle this weekend, saying "David was pretty strange. He would like to get tied up. He would tie himself up and I would walk in and see him and say 'Oh my God, David, you got to be kidding me -- and I would (turn around and) walk out. I would leave him to his own devices."
Jensen added, "He liked to be tied up. And he could tie himself up ... He spent days planning a different feature. He would go to a hardware store and buy the stuff."
We spoke with Jensen, who told us although David liked tying himself up "it was never sexual." She says he liked bondage but never choked himself. Then again, they divorced in 1997.
Last week, TheSmokingGun.com published legal documents from Carradine's 4th wife, detailing David's "potentially deadly" sex habits.
Carradine died in a Bangkok hotel room early Thursday morning. Officials will conduct a second autopsy sometime in the next few days.

David Carradine's hands were tied above his head when he died -- turns out, in the world of auto-erotic suspension, it's an easy task to master.
Brent Turvey, a forensic scientist and criminal profiler who has studied auto-erotic asphyxiation, has examined the photo of Carradine's body published in a Thai newspaper. The photo shows the body with a rope around his neck hanging in a closet ... Carradine's hands were tied above his head.
Turvey says it's simple for someone to tie rope around his/her hands, by loosely tying the hands in front -- then raising them up to tighten.
Turvey says undoing the knot is easy as well, allowing for a quick escape.
Turvey says, "By tying his hands above his head, and bending his knees in a sitting position, he can easily stand up and untie his hands with his teeth. Choking in this position is an accident that usually results from the rope being left on the neck a few seconds too long."
Since we first reported Friday that Carradine's hands may have been tied, there has been a lot of speculation it's evidence of foul play. But apparently it's actually consistent with accidental death.

We've just seen a higher resolution image of the photo that appears to be David Carradine's body hanging in his hotel room -- and it shows what seems consistent with an auto-erotica scenario ... at least from outward appearances.
The photo -- published by a Thai tabloid -- shows a body suspended from a bar in a closet, with his hands bound together above his head. Carradine's genitals were also tied.
But the new sharper image also reveals what appears to be fishnet stockings covering the body. You can also see red women's lingerie on the bed. And, it appears, Carradine may have been wearing a dark wig.
Although there are signs this could have been a sexual act that turned accidentally deadly, family sources say they are still suspicious of the circumstances and have not ruled out homicide.

Sources tell TMZ the second autopsy of David Carradine's body will be conducted in a matter of days, and two issues are on the line -- cause of death and life insurance.
As for cause of death, here's what we're hearing ... if this is truly a case of auto-erotica, typically people who do this will put a cloth or something between the neck and the skin to avoid marks that would be difficult to explain. There's a picture that was published in a Thai newspaper showing the body hanging. We will not publish it, but we do not see evidence of anything between the neck and rope. To the contrary, the photo shows redness in the right shoulder area, next to the neck.
Another issue -- if this is truly a case of auto-erotica, generally there would be a magazine, video or something of a sexual nature within eyeshot to stimulate arousal. If nothing like that is around, it's suspicious. The photo does not show any obvious signs of sexual material in the area, however there appears to be something that looks like some sort of picture that may have been taped on the wall. We can't see exactly what it is.
Also -- the notion behind auto-erotica is that oxygen is restricted to heighten orgasm, but the subject generally has a ladder, stool or something like it to restore oxygen. The photo does not show a ladder or stool, but the body is almost in a sitting position. We do not know if any items were moved before the picture was taken.
One of the biggest mysteries -- the photo in the Thai newspaper shows that Carradine's hands are tied above his head (which we reported Friday), yet Thai police say no one was with him in the room. The question -- how's that possible?
As for the second autopsy, it's often harder to determine cause of death because the body has already been through a procedure, but the advantage of the second autopsy is that there's more info and, as one source put it, "you can be more focused in terms of what the issues are."
Now, as for life insurance -- most policies provide that the policy is void if the cause of death is suicide, but if it's an accidental death insurance companies are not only required to pay out ... some policies provide that the beneficiaries get twice the payout.
Short story .. a lot will be riding on the second autopsy.

As if they weren't dealing with enough -- the family of David Carradine is now "profoundly disturbed" by the publication of a photo that appears to be Carradine hanging in his hotel room.
The photo -- which Thai police believe was taken by the forensics team -- appeared on the cover of a Thai tabloid called "Thai Rath." The photo shows a naked body suspended from a bar in the closet, with his hands apparently bound together above his head.
The paper did not identify the source of the image.
Carradine's brother Keith released a statement that says, "The family wants it understood that, per attorney Mark Geragos, any persons, publications or media outlets will be fully prosecuted for invasion of privacy and causing severe emotional distress if the photos are published."
